Hello and welcome to Cal Poly’s MultiCultural Center (MCC)! My name is Lilianne Tang and on behalf of the MCC team, thank you for seeking out our center and for your interest in our programs and services. Grounded in values of equity and justice, we prioritize the needs and experiences of marginalized student groups to support their retention and success. For many students from underrepresented backgrounds, the MCC serves as a home away from home on Cal Poly’s predominately white campus. We believe it is critical that our work validates, uplifts, and celebrates the stories and experiences of students who don’t often feel seen, heard, and valued here. As such, we are deeply committed to creating spaces that allow students to explore, develop, and challenge their understanding of power and privilege on an individual, interpersonal, and institutional level. It is through our collective and collaborative work that we are able to provide holistic experiences for marginalized communities on campus. Whether you’re looking for a study space or a socializing space, cultural and educational programming or support services, community building or critical self-reflections, the MCC will always welcome you with open arms. I hope to see you engage with our center in any capacity and I look forward to meeting you!
